Formerly named Advanced Metal Coatings, CathRx is developing medical devices using a proprietary process for plating metals on to plastics. The first major market is cardiac catheters, including mapping, temporary pacing and ablation catheters. Most importantly, CathRx is developing devices for the treatment of atrial fibrillation -- an arrhythmia that is currently poorly treated. George Murphy is a director of this company, leveraging his experience as a founder of EP Technologies in 1988, a company that pioneered arrhythmia diagnosis and treatment, and was bought by Boston Scientific. Medical devices can be clinically evaluated quickly in Australia, where we anticipate the introduction of this company's first product in 2005. TASCF co-invested in this first round financing with CM Captial, a Brisbane-based venture firm affiliated with CIBC. |
